Essential Safety Checklist Before Every Trip
Safety should never be an afterthought when transporting horses or cargo. A simple pre-trip inspection can prevent accidents and ensure a smooth journey.
Start by checking the tires. Look for proper inflation, signs of wear, or any damage. Tires are one of the most common causes of trailer-related issues.
Next, inspect the hitch and coupling system. Make sure everything is securely connected and properly locked. Safety chains should also be in place and correctly attached.
Test all lights and signals, including brake lights and indicators. Visibility is essential, especially when driving in traffic or at night.
Inside the trailer, ensure that all dividers, latches, and flooring are secure. Horses should have enough space to balance comfortably without excessive movement.
Finally, check your emergency kit. Having basic tools, a spare tire, and first-aid supplies can make a significant difference in unexpected situations.
Taking just a few minutes for these checks can greatly reduce risks and give you confidence on the road.
